Resource: When is local produce in season?

One of the most popular aspects of farmers’ markets, ours included, is the fresh produce available from local farmers. There’s something special about a tomato you know was just picked from somewhere in your own back yard, and there’s definitely something to be said for getting your hands on produce that’s in season. The nutrition and taste benefits can’t be beat.

With the huge variety of produce available at markets these days, how do you know what’s in season? Plus, seasonal availability here in Florida is going to be different than it would be somewhere like North Carolina or Texas.

Our friends at PickYourOwn.org have put together a handy chart of Florida crop availability to help you keep track of it all. The green boxes to the right of each type of produce indicate which months that items is in season. Print that out, and you’ll even have a handy reference chart to help you dream up meals and recipes using in-season foods. Sounds delicious, right?

Maybe just be sure to invite some of your friends from the market over for dinner after you pick up your next batch of locally grown produce.

Our next market is Saturday, August 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 11924 San Jose Boulevard. See you there!
